BEST OF | Summer 2024

Music can strike a note no matter what the listener may be feeling at the moment, making it a highly personal and individualised prism of perspective. While the similarities between music and fashion abound, in this instance, they boil down to the elemental tools and raw materials used to create a spectrum of different styles. For instance, an electric guitar can ignite a laidback vibe or provide a soundtrack for something much more energetic. In the same vein, a key fabric can be used to create something a bit more mainstream, while a variation of it can create an edgy, more rebellious style. That concept of musical versatility drives the story behind the BOSS Spring/Summer 2024 collections, delivering multitudes of possibilities and wearing occasions.

With a hypothetical timeline that spans decades and genres, the collection uses music as an essential connector. For menswear, inspiration was drawn from a wide range of influences. Tailored looks and the dynamic Performance collection contain nuances from the 2000s German techno scene. These are manifested through a sleek clash of modern suiting and sportier pieces, in addition to bright colour-block styles and a pixel graphic inspired by that era’s album covers. Moreover, the Performance collection contains a selection of new subranges, including Printed Dressletic shirts, padded Air Fill jackets, Stretchletic trousers, Tech Wool suiting, and Storm Bonded outerwear.

The women’s selection mirrors this musically derived concept spanning eras, as seen through power suiting, 90s-inspired slip dresses, bias-cut skirts, and utilitarian outerwear. As summer approaches, the collection implements more muted tones like a buttery pale yellow, and lightweight materials such as linen, with relaxed, slouchy silhouettes. Pinstriped pieces are also featured, in keeping with the brand’s heritage tailoring. This season also marks the first edition of Performance pieces for women, offering form-fitting separates, shaping dresses, and four-stretch fabrics for increased freedom of movement.

LET MUSIC TAKE CONTROL

Inspiration for the men’s BOSS Orange line includes early rap and hip-hop, which can be seen across selected looks with slightly baggier silhouettes and a crisp, elevated construction, juxtaposed with collegiate references and traces of classic Americana. This comes across through smart-casual tailored looks, as well as the introduction of the elevated double-B logo. Meanwhile a general nineties-rock influence can be seen through the collection’s distressed denim, muted colours, and striped knitwear. A sunny, eye-catching floral print was inspired by the Island Records label, invoking a chilled-out, warm vibe.

BOSS Orange men’s summer styles include acid-wash denim, printed T-shirts, colourful shorts and lightweight knitwear. These are complemented by terrycloth and linen separates, coordinated looks, and subtle psychedelic prints. For womenswear, the casual line includes bleached denim styles, indigo floral prints, sheer base fabrics and wool checks, among others. It also showcases printed maxi dresses, longline overshirts, cargo pants, jumpsuits, padded jackets, and cosy knitwear. The selection also ramps up the colour scheme with seasonal hues, chic floral prints, muted denims, and stunning coordinating sets.

Feel the look – special as you are

The BOSS womenswear luxury line also injects a splash of warm tones in the form of suede-finished separates, sharp skirts, and flawless tailored pieces, interspersed with linen and silk fabrics for an exquisite feel. Looks include a healthy dose of distinctive dresses and tailoring for the season’s range of special occasions. For men, the line includes expertly crafted suits in luxe materials, including wool, silk, and linen, all of which are ideal for warm weather and moments that call for a stepped-up dress code.

ENERGY BOOST

Rounding off the collection, BOSS Green draws inspiration from electronic-music duo DAFT PUNK and delivers a high-energy collection that works just as well with in the gym as in casual everyday settings. Sporty styles are made in mint-green, a variety of cool blues, and a music-frequency-inspired print that stands out in a vibrant orange. Additional accents include perforated and open woven structures, bonding as well highlighted seams that have reflective elements.
