Hotel Rosenhof in Murau has just blossomed afresh – and the professionals at Holzbau Maier bear the credit for that. Out of the attic beneath a steep-gradient roof which until now was nothing more than a storage space, this family company created a beautiful, cosy, primordially styled apartment to be the brand new residence of the woman in charge, junior level.

“For this wonderful project, we were permitted to design and make literally everything from the first concept all the way to the final
touches of interior decoration. To tell the truth, we would love to move into it ourselves,” says Birgit Maier.

The entire bottom view of the roof framework was panelled in reconditioned wood, lending the overall atmosphere a homey flair. Accenting this, rooftop windows and dormers generate a bright yet comfy cloud of light. In order to take advantage of every possible millimetre of the gabled pediment, a gallery was created as what is surely the most beautiful home office far and near. To culminate the design highlights, a striking oaken staircase with illuminated steps and a black wrought-iron banister. And to dot the i, a rooftop terrace completed with larch wood floor and canopied over in glass was added as a special request of the new resident-to-be.

From hand-planed oaken hallways to interior doors with cross-textured grain, all the way to the furniture of refurbished old wood and a made-to-measure kitchen, the details of the masterful work finished by the Maier carpentry workshops seem to find no end. Besides the superb artisanry, it is the endless sum of details which distinguish the interior to the utmost degree.
