Project Description

KKitzbühel | Issue 55 | Summer 2024

In an historic ensemble of industrial buildings in Cham, Switzerland near Lucerne, STEININGER transmuted the raw building shell into a timeless, elegant living loft which wins accolades through the harmonious opposites. This particular type of charm was irresistible to the future owners, and they gave the contract for the planning of a 110 m² large loft-apartment to the team at STEININGER.

As a consequence of room heights of five metres, huge industrial windows and a concrete shed roof which was not permitted to be altered, the planning team launched far-reaching adaptations. Step by step the object of desire evolved and took shape: a wall was removed from the living area, thereby giving the room a large new L-shape. A long, dark oaken floor extended over the entire floor space, thereby uniting widely separate zones.

The central heart is the monolithic cement PURE kitchen by STEININGER combined with it a massive wood table of dark-hued tobak oak and tall standing cabinet called WALL by STEININGER, stained in dark oaken tones. Across from this the living area unfolds its own charms with a Neo Wall sofa and green lounge chair by Living Divani revolving around a circular carpet Brasilia by Living Divani and pendulous hanging Raimond lights by Moooi. This room is optically lengthened by a parasol mirror with its own light-interstices and encased back wall frame. To underscore the soothing harmony of all these elements, both their form and colour, a highly re-fined light concept was then implemented.

Above the sleeping zone, which includes a walk-in closet by STEININGER and built-in cabinets and doors, is the entrance to the bathroom. Wall panelling by Infinito in “gris du marais” shades and bathroom furniture carved out of a block of natural stone were finished by Salvatori and then completed with black armatures by Gessi. The final, ultimate touch is added by wood panelling which conducts a “dialogue” with the lamella sliding doors.
